Baseball Sweeps Saint Elizabeth to Conclude Spring Break

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - In its final outing of its 2026 Spring Break trip, Eastern Baseball ended the week with a doubleheader sweep of the Saint Elizabeth Eagles. The Eagles built an early lead and were never threatened in a 10-4 win in game one. In game two, senior Luke Meehan recorded his 100th hit as an Eagle, and junior Brennan Moloughney threw a complete-game, 63-pitch shutout en route to a 9-0 victory.

With his single in his second at-bat in game two, Meehan reached the 100-hit mark in just his third season with Eastern Baseball. Meehan had 62 of those hits a season ago, which is the second-most in a single season in program history. The senior first baseman is hitting .478 in the early season with a robust 1.554 OPS, a team-high 17 runs scored, 14 RBIs, and two home runs, 11 hits, and three doubles.

The Eagles struck quickly in the opener, plating five runs in the first two innings. After Trent MacDougall and Robert Del Buono led off the game with back-to-back singles, Meehan hit his second home run of the season over the left field wall, giving the Eagles a 3-0 lead. In the top of the second, Thomas Kozlusky led off the frame with a double and stole third, and MacDougall plated him with an RBI infield single. Del Buono followed with an RBI single of his own, scoring MacDougall to make it a 5-0 Eastern lead.

While the Eastern offense continued to produce, junior Graham Adams (2-0) put together another quality start on the mound. The southpaw pitched five efficient innings, allowing just five hits and one run while striking out four. He also recorded six flyouts and five groundouts.

The Eagles tacked on three more runs in the fifth to increase their lead to 8-0. Justin DiCesare hit a pinch-hit, sacrifice fly, scoring Del Buono, Meehan scored on a Saint Elizabeth throwing error, and JJ Matos capped off the inning with an RBI double down the third base line, scoring Matthew Gonglik. Gonglik and Matos added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to center and an RBI groundout, respectively. Saint Elizabeth broke up the shutout bid on a Trevor Policastro RBI single in the fifth and cut the Eastern lead to six on a Mark Nesler three-run home run in the seventh, but would not draw any closer.

Del Buono finished 3-for-4 in the game one win with a triple and a pair of runs scored. Meehan drove in three runs while also scoring three runs. MacDougall and Gonglik combined for four hits and three runs scored, while Matos, Kozlusky, and Jason Gregory also finished with hits in the contest.

Moloughney (2-1) was flawless on the bump in his second win of the young season. The junior allowed just three baserunners in seven innings, striking out six batters while inducing eight flyouts and seven groundouts. All three hits were singles.

The Eagles again built an early lead in the second game, scoring two runs in the first and four more in the second. First-year designated hitter Matt McSorley started the scoring with a one-out, two-run single in the first.  In the second inning, Meehan and first-year shortstop Ryan Alfonso hit RBI singles to make it 5-0, before Alfonso later scored on a Saint Elizabeth fielding error to make it a six-run lead for the Eagles.

With Moloughney dealing on the mound, the Eagles added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the fifth. McSorley hit his first collegiate home run, Trevor Harris scored Gonglik on an RBI groundout, and Kozlusky capped off the scoring with an RBI infield single.

Alfonso finished 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and two RBI, while McSorley collected two hits and three RBIs. Kozlusky, Gonglik, and Lane Heuer combined for six hits and four runs scored.

Eastern (7-3) returns home on Saturday for a doubleheader with Rosemont. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
