CHESTER, Pa. - Eastern Men's Track and Field put forth another strong showing at the Danny Curran Invitational over the weekend.
Josh Harris broke a long standing record in the high jump,
Keyon Jones set the new mark in the 110m Hurdles, and several other Eagles recorded personal and season bests.
Harris, in just his second event, became the new record holder in the High Jump. He recorded a High Jump of 2.01m, breaking the record of 2.00m set by Aron Szenczy and DeShawn Dale back in 2018.
Lawrence Day also recorded a PR with a jump of 1.91m.
On the track, sophomore
Keyon Jones broke the record of teammate
Ian Hopkins. running a 14.71 in the 110m Hurdles, 0.04 seconds faster than Hopkins.
In the 5000m,
Ryle Mellinger was nine-tenths of a second away from setting the new mark in the 5000m. The senior shattered his previous best mark with a time of 14:54.20, just off Greg Thomas' 14:54.11 run back at the Swarthmore Final Qualifier in 2018.
In the 10000m, both
Jason Karch and
Anthony Zamichieli qualified for the MAC Outdoor Championships. Karch moved up to fourth in school history with a time of 33:43.45. Zamichielli moved up to sixth with a time of 34:11.03.
In the 100m and 200m, first-year
Jahari Brown and
Josiah Cureton continued to move up the rankings. Brown finished 11.03 in the 100m and 22.32 in the 200m, good for fourth and third, respectively. Cureton moved to ninth in the 100m at 11.29 and ran a season-best in the 200m at 22.59.
Christian Scales improved on his 400m time, recording a PR of 50.84.
In the 800m,
Joshua Knox-Wagner and
Malachi Wilson moved up to sixth and ninth with time of 1:59.83 and 2:02.72. Finally, Cureton, Brown,
Brock Brunson, and
Jason Bateman ran the second-best time in school history in the 4x100, finishing in 42.89.
Eastern will be back in action in two weeks for the three-day Messiah Multi and Invitational.
