HOBOKEN, N.J.— For the fourth-straight year, Eastern University Men's Lacrosse has had the misfortune of playing a nationally-ranked team after that team has been beaten by Tufts. Though the Eagles kept things tight early, the ninth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technolgy Ducks had too much offense and specialist power to overcome. Stevens (6-2) outscored the Eagles 15-1 through the two middle periods and pulled away to a 22-4 win.
Frankie Fanelli put away a man-up goal from
Brennan Kaut to start the game, but though the Eagles kept things fairly tight on faceoffs, they did not find offensive joy again until midway through the third quarter. Fanelli fed
Maxwell Forrey for an even-strength goal to stop a 4-to-0 Stevens' run to start the frame.
The Eagles got their only two-goal burst of the game int he fourth on a Forrey goal from
Gavin Stark and a Stark goal from
Brett Gougler.
While total shots for the game had Stevens with a slim 51-48 edge, but the Ducks had a 34-23 edge in shots on frame. The Stevens' goalies made 16 saves in the first three quarters.
Benjamin Souder won 13-of-25 faceoffs and had four ground balls. Stevens went 5-of-6 on man-up chances.
The Eagles (1-9) open the MAC Commonwealth schedule at Widener on Wednesday evening.
