POMONA, N.J.— Eastern University Men's Track and Field opened the outdoor season with several solid performances at the Stockton Invitational in South Jersey.
Christian Scales posted a second-place finish in the 400 meters,
Robert Walton was second in the 1500 Meters,
Ryle Mellinger won the 800 Meters, and
Keyon Jones and
Ian Hopkins took the top two spots in the 110 Meter High Hurdles.
Foday Koroma set a new program record in the Hammer.
The Eastern sprinters went into the wind and delivered solid times in the 100 Meter Dash and came back three guys int he top eight in the 200 Meters.
Jahari Brown finished fourth in the 100 and 200. His 22.51 in the 200 puts him fourth on Eastern's career list.
With a 51.10 in the 400, Scales covered the loop in the second-fastest time in Eastern program history. Mellinger ran his two-lap race in almost exactly the same time as what he ran in his final outdoor race of 2025. Walton and
Joshua Knox-Wagner finished second and fourth in the 1500. Knox-Wagner's 4:13.91 puts him tenth on Eastern's career list.
In the Hurdles, Jones and Hopkins both came in just a breath behind Hopkins' program record set last year at the MAC Championships. At 14.81 Jones is second on Eastern's career list. It is the first time he has run the high hurdles in competition.
Off the track,
Lawrence Day and Joshua Harris finished tied for third at 1.86 Meters.
Derrick Swain finished fourth in the Discus, and Koroma was sixth in the Hammer. His 40.39 broke his old record by nearly two meters.
Brandon Downey became the first Eastern javelin thrower since Grant Fisher to break 160 feet. His 48.97 meter effort was good enough for eighth and puts him second on Eastern's career list behind the 2019 All-American. Edged out by Caldwell at the tape, Eastern's throwers finished second in the all-important weight-man's 4x 100 Meter Relay.
Eastern is at Widener for the Danny Curran Invitational next weekend.
