ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Women's Tennis earned its first win of the spring season on Thursday in a 5-2 win over the Lancaster Bible Chargers at the EU Tennis Courts. The Eagles won two of the three doubles matches and claimed wins in four of six singles matches.
The Eagles claimed the doubles points with wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles.
Anaya Birch and
Lily Aldrich recorded the first win of the day for Eastern, 6-4, over LBC's Becky Dimov and Sarah Lesher at No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles,
Kayleigh Achenbach and
Kiley McHugh gave the Eagles their first point of the afternoon with a 6-4 win over Natalie Hoover and Lindsey Ochs.
Senior
Anisah Smith earned her first win at No. 1 singles, winning the first game 6-0 before the match was called due to an injury. After the Chargers took the win at No. 2 singles, McHugh won a super tiebreaker to give the Eagles their third point. She won the first set 6-4, and after dropping the second set 7-6 (7-4), rallied for an impressive 10-7 win in the super tiebreaker. Achenbach and
Sarah Mower followed suit at No. 5 and 3 singles, respectively. Achenbach beat Dimov 6-3, 2-6, 10-3, and Mower clinched the win for Eastern with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 triumph over Natalie Hoover.
Eastern (2-2) will be back in action in the Lehigh Valley on Wednesday for a 3:00 pm matchup against DeSales.
