CLERMONT, Fla. - In its 2026 season and Spring Break opener on Sunday afternoon, Eastern Softball came away with a 15-6, run-rule triumph over Adrian College. The Eagles scored 15 unanswered runs and used a 13-run fourth inning to secure the win.
Eastern recorded 13 hits in the win. First-year left fielder
Maryanna Nagle had a tremendous debut, finishing 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and six RBIs. Fellow first-year
Emily Trzonkowski and junior
Dakota Owen each collected a pair of hits and scored a run. Senior
Mackenzie Laub recorded her 100th hit as an Eagle and drove in a pair of runs. Junior
Ainsley O'Donnell and first-year
Gia Gordon also recorded a pair of RBIs, and four other Eagles recorded a least one hit.
Adrian struck first on an RBI single from Meghan Kowalyk, but the Eagles answered back in the top of the third inning with a pair of runs. Trzonkowski led off the frame with a double to left center and
Bella Herrera also reached on a bunt single. Nagle followed with a two-run double, scoring both Trzonkowski and Herrera to give the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish.
Eastern sent 19 batters to the plate in its 13-run fourth frame, with
Sydney Ostolaza,
Mackenzie Maki, Nagle, O'Donnell, Gordon, Laub, and Owen all driving in runs. Nagle had four RBIs in the frame, including a three-run home run, the first of her collegiate career.
The Bulldogs made it interesting in the fifth frame, scoring five runs to cut the Eastern lead down to nine, but
Bryn Clifford locked it done, recording the final two outs to secure the run-rule victory. Trzonkowski (1-0) recorded her first collegiate win, giving up just one hit and one earned run with three strikeouts.
The Eagles will play seven more games during their 2026 Spring Break trip this week. They will play a pair of games tomorrow against LVC at 10:00 am and Alma College at 12:15 pm.
