READING, Pa.— Eastern University Men's Soccer (5-1-3) scored four times in the opening 33 minutes, and
Michael Arcuri and WIll Schade combined to make four stops to earn 4-0 shutout win at Penn State Berks in a final non-league test.
Osmond Chan scored twice and
Ethan Pfau added a pair to help the Eagles to a fifth win on the year.
Chan's first goal came in spectacular fashion i the 12th minute. Out of a nice combination with Cullen Vischer in the final third,
Zach Sievert clipped a shot off the underside of the crossbar from the right side. Chan, anticipating a cross, was in slightly deeper than the rebound. The senior from Hong Kong flung both legs over his head and knocked in his second of the year. Three minutes later, Chan powered home a header on a corner kick from Alexandros Tzerminias.
Pfau added goals in the 30th and 33rd minutes. HIs first tally came with a strong header off a corner kick from
Artur Braga.
Marcus Pringle created the fourth goal. After a loose touch put the ball at the feet of a Lion defender, Pringle pressed and won a ball going forward. He flicked a ball forward into space. Pfau won the race and guided in his fifth tally of the year.
The Eagles finished the match with 40 shots and 28 on goal. The Lions (2-8-2) got 23 stops from their goalkeeper and had another ball saved off the line by a position player.
"Their goalkeeper played very well the whole game and was spectacular in the second half," Head Coach
Luca Mellor said after the match. 'I was pleased with the way we created chances and kept pressure on. Alexandros and Artur both had good games and picked up assists with good serves. We now have to prepare for conference."
Eastern's final eight regular-season matches will be in the MAC Commonwealth. The first two of those matches will be next week. The Eagles will host York on Wednesday and Neumann on Saturday. Neumann is at York this afternoon.
