Lewis Breaks Own Triple Jump Record at Coach I Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore Jeric Lewis recorded a top-15 DIII mark in the Triple Jump, breaking his own record in the process, and made it into the top-10 of the 60m at the Coach I Invitational at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. After Frantzy Sainvil held the record for eight years, Lewis has broken the record twice in two Saturdays.

Lewis jumped six times at F&M, five of which all eclipsed 14 meters. His final jump of the day went 14.55 m, over a tenth of a meter further this previous record jump. Lewis is now ranked 12th in the Triple Jump nationally. In the 60m, Lewis ran a PR time of 7.24, which ties him for eighth in program history with Tamir Jones, who ran a 7.24 in the 2017 MAC Indoor Championships.

Eastern had two other changes to the top-10, both on the track. Sophomore Matthew Schilling ran a PR time of 16:52.23 in the 5000m, which now ranks ninth in program history. In the relays, the team of Fritz Clement, Shamar Davis, Robert Walton, and Christian Scales placed third in the 4x400 with a time of 3:33.72, also good for ninth in program history.

Ian Hopkins continued to perform well in the 60m Hurdles, finishing first in the event with a time of 8.47. James Ugorji (7.05) and Josiah Cureton (7.24) finished third and eighth in the 60m, while Keyon Jones (23.18) and Ugorji (23.47) took second and third in the 200m.

In the Mile, Ryle Mellinger finished fourth with a time of 4:29.32, and first-year Joshua Knox-Wagner ran a 4:44.20 PR. Fellow first-year Malachi Wilson ran a season-best time of 2:05.49 in the 800m. To wrap up the day on the track, Eastern's second 4x400m team of Kendyel Furtick, Knox-Wagner, Tyler Long, and WIlson finished eighth in the event with a time of 3:35.33.

In the field, Lawrence Day (1.88m) and Leroy Cornette (1.73m) took second and seventh in the High Jump, Elijah McCullough finished second in the Long Jump with a season-best 6.50m, and Zachary Howard placed eighth in the Triple Jump at 12.50m.

Eastern will be back in action next weekend at the Widener Evening Invitational hosted by Penn.
