Women's Basketball Falls at Messiah

GRANTHAM, Pa. - Eastern Women's Basketball dropped its fifth straight contest on Wednesday in a 78-40 road loss to Messiah. The Eagles were outscored 26-3 and shot just one-of-13 in the opening frame. Additionally, the Eagles shot just 13-of-56 (23.2 percent) for the game.

Jeriyah Johnson opened the scoring for Eastern with a three-pointer its second possession, giving the Eagles a 3-2 advantage. It was the Eagles' only lead of the contest. Eastern failed to score over the final 8:54 of the first frame, and Messiah countered with 24 straight points to take a lead they would not relinquish. The Falcons rode that first-quarter surge the rest of the way, building its lead to as many as 40 in the fourth quarter.

Madeline Wylie led the Eagles with 10 points on four field goals to go along with a team-high nine rebounds. Johnson finished the game with six points, while Ariyana Hester and Adriana Summersett each added five.

Eastern will be back on the road Saturday at Hood. Tip-off is set for 12:00 pm.
