CAMDEN, N.J. - In its first dual match of the season on Friday, Eastern Men's Tennis came away with a 5-2 win over the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors. The Eagles earned four wins in singles play and two more in doubles play to begin the 2025-2026 season 1-0.
Senior
Jeffrey Day and sophomore
Jared Groff earned their first win of the season at No. 2 doubles with a 6-0 win over Isan Salamanca and Christopher Abacan. First-years
Toby Sallee and
Zachary Sprung earned the doubles point for Eastern, and the first wins of their collegiate careers, with a 7-5 victory over John Brady and Mike Olsen.
First-years
Stephen Dottoli and
Jaylen Ferguson, together with senior
Tiger Winston, earned their first wins for Eastern at No. 2, 6, and 5 singles, respectively. Dottoli earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Olsen, while Ferguson claimed a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Salamanca. Groff picked up his second win of the day at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-0, over Abacan, and Winston clinched the final point for the Eagles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over John Brady.
"It was a nice twin from the men's team today," Eastern Head Coach
Harrison Bitzberger said. "A lot of different players contributed. Stephen, Tiger, and Jaylen really perfomed well to earn their first singles win."
Eastern will continue its fall schedule next Saturday, Oct. 4, at Penn State Abington.
