Field Hockey Rolls Over Gwynedd Mercy for Fourth Straight Win

LOWER GWYNEDD, Pa. – Eastern Field Hockey continued its dominant run on Saturday afternoon, powering past Gwynedd Mercy with a commanding 6-1 victory for its fourth straight win. The Eagles came out firing, scoring six unanswered goals and unleashing 30 total shots in a relentless offensive display.

Sophomore goalkeeper Angelina Catania anchored the defense with another standout performance, making seven saves to earn her fourth consecutive win.

The scoring started early and didn't let up. Abby Hakes put Eastern on the board just 6:41 into the game, deflecting a pass from first-year Braeley DiGregorio off one of the Eagles' 16 penalty corners. Less than a minute later, DiGregorio found the cage herself, beating the Griffins' keeper one-on-one to double the lead.

The Eagles stayed hot in the second quarter. Kara Frantz buried Eastern's third goal just 42 seconds into the period, converting a direct pass from Hakes off another penalty corner. Late in the quarter, Karlee Howard added to the tally with her fourth goal of the season, giving Eastern a commanding 4-0 lead heading into halftime.

After a quiet third quarter, the Eagles struck quickly in the fourth. First-year Angelina Ellis netted her first collegiate goal just 56 seconds into the period, and CJ Summa followed with her fourth of the season with 10 minutes to play. Howard assisted on both goals, finishing the game with a goal and two assists.

Although Gwynedd Mercy managed to spoil the shutout bid late in the fourth, Catania remained steady in goal, continuing to be the backbone of the Eagles' defense.

"Today's win was a total team effort," said Head Coach Abbey Kemble. "From start to finish, every player worked together to get the job done."

Eastern returns home on Wednesday to host Drew University at 4:00 pm.
