ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Back home for conference action on Tuesday afternoon, Eastern Men's Tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to the Albright Lions. The Eagles (4-11, 2-3) picked up their lone point of the day at doubles, winning two of the three matches.
The duo of
Jeremy Brown and
Jared Groff recorded Eastern's first win of the day at No. 2 doubles, beating Albright's Timo Weber and Hugh Crawford 6-4.
Joshua Pavao and
Ethan Goonewardene clinched the doubles point in a thrilling 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 3 doubles over Gavin Buckley and Dominic Perch. After Goonewardene served, Pavao used a drop shot on the return volley to seal the win.
The Lions (7-8, 3-2), however, got the better of the Eagles in singles competition, winning all six matches.
Jared Groff battled valiantly in the second set at No. 5 singles, but lost to Albright's Clay Lewandowski 1-6, 4-6.
Fredy Rodriguez won six games at No. 6 singles, but fell 3-6, 3-6.
Eastern will play its final non-conference match of the season on Thursday when it hosts Rowan College of Gloucester County in a makeup match. First serve at the EU Tennis Courts is set for 3:30 pm.
