Offense Leads the Way as Men's Lacrosse Wins at Albright

READING. Pa. — Coming off a frustrating home win over Alvernia on Wednesday, Eastern University Men's Lacrosse hit the reset button was firing on all cylinders right from the start in a 28-9 win at Albright. The Eagles scored ten times the first twelve minutes of the game and led 17-4 at halftime.

Fifteen different Eastern players tallied goals in the game. Brett Williamson put away six of his ten shot attempts for his second six goal performance of the year. Christopher Fanelli had four goals and two assists.

While the Lions came into the game without a win in the league, they had frustrated offenses throughout their recent games. Messiah and York each only scored 12 in wins, and Hood needed a fourth quarter rally to win 10-8 on Wednesday.

In all the scoring, Nick Litzenberger hit a career point milestone with the first goal of the second half. He had a goal and four assists in the first half to get to 199 points for his career. He had six points in three games in a.COVID Shortened season at Utica in 2021. His production has increased in each of his four seasons at Eastern. After scoring 31 points his first year, he had 43 his second and 58 his third. He is currently at 63 points for this year. As remarkable, his goal and assist numbers have jumped in each season. He is two points behind Chris Farrar for the fifth spot in Eastern career points. With five more points, he will become the first full-time midfielder to reach 200 points. Christopher Fanelli is fourth on the list with 215 points, and Dave Darling is third with 221.

After shooting a low percentage and squandering opportunities in Wednesday's home win, the Eagles scored on their first four shots of the game. Litzenberger set up Williamson on the doorstep 35 seconds in and then put away an unassisted tally 23 seconds later. Christopher Fanelli scored the next two. Jake Vitone got the assist on the first one and Frankie Fanelli set up the second one.

"We stressed that we wanted to share the ball and get the better shot," Head Coach Colin Piper said after the game. "I pleased to see us have 20 assists in the game. The guys did a good job taking responsibility to score while really playing for each other."

The Eagles (7-8, 3-2) finally had an empty possession after a pair of saves, but Zach Puckett checked a ball free and Dan Divita carried the ball into the offensive end before hammering home his third of the year for a 5-0 lead with 11:37 on the clock.

Brett Williamson scored twice more in the first quarter and Ryan Williamson had one. Christopher Fanelli scored an extra-man goal with eight minutes left in the first. That goal, on Eastern's only man-up chance of the day, was the 12th extra-man goal of the year for Fanelli. He is tied atop the national rankings in that category. He has 36 career goals while up a man.

The Eagles tacked on seven goals int he second quarter to put the game away. They scored those goals on 35 total shots. Though Albright ultimately won more faceoffs int he game by a 26-15 edge. Ben Souder won 7-of-12 early. Zachary Klym made eight saves while allowing four goals in just under forty minutes. Brendan Kern and Ben Connolly combined for four more stops in relief.

After Litzenberger opened the scoring in the second half, Maxwell Forrey, Min Lee, Ryan Drobnick, and Nicholas Howes all got on the board in the third. Joshua Jordan, Charlie Harrison, and Vitone finished up the scoring in the fourth. Drobnick, a senior from Berkshire county, finished with a hat trick in front of his home fans.

With the win, the Eagles move into position to secure a post-season berth with one more win in the league. They will host Widener on Wednesday and Hood on Saturday. The Pride are 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth with a win over Messiah and a loss to Hood with games against York and Stevenson on either side of Wednesday's game. Hood is 2-2 in the league. The Blazers have Alvernia and York on the schedule before finishing the season in St. Davids. The Blazers own a 10-8 win over Widener but lost to Messiah, 15-7.
