KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Eastern Softball ended its 2025 Spring Break schedule with a pair of impressive wins on Friday morning. The Eagles (8-2) scored seven early runs on their way to an 8-2 win over Clark University in the first game. In game two, an excellent start in the circle from
Regina Bangcoro, combined with a five-run first inning, lifted Eastern to a 7-1 win over Johnson & Wales University.
Emily Kurth continued the torrid start of her collegiate career at the plate. The Tom Rivers N.J. finished with four hits across both games and recorded four more RBIs. At the conclusion of Spring Break, Kurth leads the team in hits with 13 and RBIs with 11.
Mackenzie Laub went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs against Clark (6-3), while
Alyssa Binczak also finished with a pair of hits and one RBI. Against Johnson & Wales (3-7),
Maeve Colligan hit a three-run home run in Eastern's five-run first inning and six other Eagles recorded a hit. Laub and
Sydney Ostolaza also drove in a run with a win.
With the game against Clark scoreless in its early stages, the floodgates opened in the bottom of the second inning.
Dakota Owen worked a two-out walk, and back-to-back singles from
Sophie Rollins and Binczak loaded the bases.
Maura Yoos drew a bases-loaded walk to plate the Eagles' first run, before a two-run single from Laub and a two-run double on a rope from Kurth put the Eagles ahead 5-0.
The Eagles added to their lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. A Rollins RBI groundout to second scored
Jania Long, and a double from Binczak sent Owen Home to put the Eagles up 7-0. The Eagles added a little insurance in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout from
Kellie O'Brien.
Long (4-0) completed a perfect Spring Break with her fourth win in the circle. With the offense providing all the support she needed for the second straight game, the senior from Deptford, N.J. pitched all seven innings, giving up six hits and just one earned run with a pair of strikeouts. She also recorded five flyouts and 13 groundouts on 92 pitches.
The Eagles' offense remained red hot in the first inning against Johnson & Wales. After walks to Binczak and Yoos and a perfect sacrifice bunt from Laub, Kurth recorded her second two-run hit of the morning, this time a two-run single, to put the Eagles ahead 2-0. Two batters later, Colligan ripped a moonshot over the center field fence to put the Eagles in the drivers' seat. It was the first home run of the season for the junior and the second for Eastern in as many days.
Eastern added single runs in the third and seventh frames. An Ostolaza RBI single in the third made it 6-0 in favor of the Eagles, and Laub plated Eastern's seventh run on a sacrifice fly to center field in the seventh.
Bangcoro (1-0) had one of her best outings in an Eastern uniform to earn her first win of the season. The senior from Easton retired the first 10 batters she faced and gave up just five hits and one earned run, which all came in the final two innings with the contest well in hand. Bangcoro finished with four strikeouts, while also recording nine flyouts and eight groundouts.
The Eagles return home to Pennsylvania and will make the quick trek to Rosemont for its first doubleheader of the season on Tuesday. First pitch against the Ravens is set for 3:00 pm.
