Baseball Falls to Saint Elizabeth on Third Day of Spring Break

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Eastern Baseball dropped its first game of spring break on Thursday with a 7-4 loss to the Saint Elizabeth University Eagles at the Polo Grounds at the Cal Ripken Experience. Eastern (4-4) led 4-3 after the third inning, but Saint Elizabeth scored a pair of runs in the fourth and sixth frames to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Eagles recorded just two hits in the loss, a pair of singles, and despite 12 walks, Eastern left seven runners on base.

The Saint Elizabeth Eagles (3-5) struck first in the contest with three runs in the opening frame. Richard Sherman III opened the game with a single to right field, and Anthony Rossomando followed with a triple to right field to score Sherman and give Saint Elizabeth a 1-0 lead. Trevor Policastro plated the Eagles' second run on a sacrifice fly, and the lead was increased to 3-0 after Hunter Curran was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Eastern got on the board in the second inning on a dropped infield fly on which Joe Paradise scored, and the Eagles took the lead briefly in the home half of the third. Trent MacDougall led off the inning with a single, and Thomas Kozlusky walked. Both runners stole a base to put themselves in scoring position, and MacDougall later scored on a wild pitch to cut the Saint Elizabeth lead to 3-2. Brock Langlotz worked a bases-loaded walk to tie the contest at 3-3, and Luca Marinucci put the Eagles ahead with an RBI single through the left side. It was the last hit of the game for Eastern.

Saint Elizabeth quickly took the lead back on a two-out, two-run single from Policastro in the fifth, and the Eagles added a little insurance in the sixth with a two-run single from Cameron Vicari. Eastern had baserunners in three of the game's final four innings, but could not bring any more runs home.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow morning for a 10:00 am contest against Rivier University.
