ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Men's Tennis remained red hot on Wednesday night, bouncing back from an early 3-1 deficit to claim a 4-3 win over DeSales University.
Jared Groff claimed the crucial fourth point at No. 5 singles to secure Eastern's third straight win to start the spring.
In doubles play,
Jeffrey Day and
Peter Folga took care of business at No. 1 doubles, winning 6-2, but the Bulldogs claimed the doubles points with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Joshua Pavao and
Ethan Goonewardene forced a tiebreaker against DeSales' Christopher Gomez and Frank Boffa, but the latter duo secured the win with a 7-2 tiebreaker.
Folga collected his second win of the afternoon at No. 2 singles, beating Brent Holzman 6-4, 6-2 to give Eastern its first point.
Fredy Rodriguez give the Eagles their second point with an 8-5 win at No. 6 singles, and Goonewardene earned a critical tiebreaker win at No. 4 single, winning the final two sets 6-3 and 10-8 after dropping the first set 6-4.
Groff, in his third match with Eastern Men's Tennis, pushed the Eagles' to their third win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Boffa as the darkess set in. After finishing winless in the fall, the Eagles are 3-0 in the their spring season.
Eastern returns to conference play on Saturday at Stevenson. First serve is set for 2:30 pm.
