Flag Football Blanks Penn State Schuylkill in Pair of Victories

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. – Eastern Women's Flag Football continued to soar early on in its inaugural season, securing a pair of shutout victories over Penn State Schuylkill on Monday evening. With the wins, Eastern (4-2, 3-2) extended its win streak to four games. Eastern's offense racked up 476 total yards and five touchdowns across both games, while the defense remained impenetrable, leading to a combined 55-0 sweep on the night.

In the opening game, the Eagles showcased their offensive firepower with a 34-0 rout. Quarterbacks Kira Green and Dominique Geiger combined for 141 passing yards and two touchdowns, while standout rookie Kyla Massenburg delivered a stellar performance, scoring three times. The Flemington, N.J. native rushed for 83 yards on five carries, found the end zone twice on the ground, and added four receptions for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Eastern wasted no time putting points on the board. On just their third play from scrimmage, Green connected with Massenburg, who sprinted untouched for a 63-yard touchdown. The defense kept the pressure on, forcing a safety to extend the lead to 9-0. By halftime, Eastern had stretched its advantage to 15-0.

The defense made a statement in the second quarter, stalling a Lions' drive that drained over seven minutes from the clock. Penn State Schuylkill advanced deep into Eastern territory, but the Eagles' defense held firm, forcing a turnover on downs at the 14-yard line. Massenburg and Geiger each found the end zone in the third quarter, sealing the commanding 34-0 victory.

Eastern's defense carried its momentum into the second game, setting the tone early. On just the fourth play, Jeriyah Johnson intercepted a pass from Nadia King, and three plays later, Green punched in a two-yard touchdown run.

Massenburg continued her scoring spree, sprinting for a 45-yard touchdown on Eastern's first drive of the second quarter. Minutes later, Hope Gaither grabbed another interception, giving the Eagles prime field position. Capitalizing on the turnover, Eastern orchestrated a six-play scoring drive, capped off by a four-yard touchdown run from Geiger.

Massenburg put the finishing touches on a dominant defensive outing, intercepting a pass on the Lions' first drive of the second half. Eastern's defense remained impenetrable, securing the Eagles' third shutout in four games against Penn State Schuylkill.

The Eagles have now outscored the Lions 88-0 in their season series and will look to carry this momentum into their historic first-ever home game. Eastern will host Holy Family this Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. on the EU Aux Field.
