LANCASTER, Pa. - Eastern Men's Tennis recorded its first win of the spring and the season on Wednesday, coming away with a 5-2 win over the Lancaster Bible Chargers. Eastern (1-6) took four of the six singles matches and two of the three doubles bouts.
Eastern's No. 2 and 3 doubles teams won all but three games.
Jeremy Brown and
Jared Groff, in their second match together, earned their first win as a pairing, 6-2, over LBC's (2-7) Owen Mileham and Cole Scheihing. At No. 3 doubles,
Ethan Goonewardene and
Joshua Pavao took care of business with a 6-1 win over Austin King and Andrew Kelly. It was the second win for the duo this season.
Jeffrey Day earned his second win of the season at No. 1 singles, winning a furious tiebreaker to earn the point. After winning the first set, 6-0, LBC's Josh Jarvis won a close second set, 7-6. Day outlasted Jarvis in the tiebreaker, winning 12-10.
Peter Folga also won his second match of the season, coming away with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Cameron Tripp.
In his second match with the team since joining in the spring,
Jared Groff dominated at No. 5 singles, sweeping Austin King 6-0, 6-0. At No. 6 singles,
Fredy Rodriguez gave the Eagles their fifth, and winning point, with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Andrew Kelly.
"It was a great match by both teams," Eastern Head Coach
Harrison Bitzberger said. "We battled through some tough matches to earn this win."
Eastern opens its conference season against Hood College this coming Saturday in St. Davids. First serve is set for 12 noon.
