CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Eastern Baseball's winless streak hit seven games on Wednesday night as the Eagles (5-11) dropped a 10-4 decision to the Washington College Shoremen. The Eagles struck first in the top of the opening frame, but the Shoremen (12-5) answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and later used a four-run fifth to take a lead they would not relinquish.
The Eagles started strong as sophomore
Robert Del Buono hit a leadoff home run. Washington College answered back with a two-run home run from Chase Ruppell, and increased their its lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Matt Lewis.
Luke Meehan trimmed the Shoremen lead to one with an RBI triple in the fourth, scoring
Leyton Bamesberger. The junior led the Eagles with three hits in four at-bats to go along with his RBI, and was a home run short of the cycle. Washington College, however, regained control with its four-run fifth inning. All four runs came off of Eastern fielding miscues.
Justin DiCesare and
Brock Langlotz hit RBI singles in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-4, but that was as close as the Eagles would get. The Shoremen tacked on insurance runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth frames to secure their 12th win of the season.
The Eagles resume its conference schedule this weekend with a three-game series against York College. The first game will be played on Friday afternoon at Villanova Stadium in Plymouth Meeting. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
