MAHWAH, N.J. - For the second straight weekend, Eastern Men's Volleyball split a pair of matches on Saturday, this time at the Ramapo Tri-Match hosted by Ramapo College. The Eagles recorded its fifth win of the season with a three-set sweep of Bard College, before falling to the host Ramapo Roadrunners in four. First-year outside hitter
Kaodi Wokocha had another strong day for the Eagles with 21 total kills over the course of the afternoon.
Eastern put together a strong offensive performance against Bard, hitting at a .324 clip, which included a .444 hitting percentage in the third set. Fellow first-year
Colby Arvesen led the Eagles with nine kills agains Bard, all of which came in the final two sets, while
Connor Tucholski and Wokocha finished with seven and six, respectively.
Ronan Landis and
Josh Hrabosky combined for 24 assists, while
Max Bushong led the Eagles' defensive effort with eight digs. Additionally, the Eagles finished with four aces and six blocks.
Josiah Cash led the way with three blocks, while Max Bajileo ended the match with two.
The two teams battled in the first set. Bard grabbed an early 5-1 lead, before a service error and a kill from sophomore
Symir Byrd cut the advantage to 5-3. Bard pushed its lead back to 9-5, but a three straight point from the Eagles, which included a kill from Cash, made it 9-8. The teams continued to trade points in the opening set, before the Eagles used a four-point run to take the lead for good. Wokocha recorded back-to-back kills to end the run and put Eastern ahead 16-14. Late in the set, with the Eagles leading 22-20, a kill from
Max Bagileo followed by back-to-back errors from Bard gave the Eagles a 25-20 win.
The second set was much like the first with both teams trading points throughout the early stages. Bard led 15-13 at the midway point, but the Eagles rattled off a 6-1 run to take the lead for the rest of the set. Byrd, Tucholski, and Wokocha each recorded kills during the run. Kills from Wokocha and Arvesen put the Eagles ahead 24-18, and Arvesen's fifth kill of the set put the Eagles ahead 2-0.
Eastern dominated the final set, winning by a score of 25-13. Eastern started the set on a 16-5 run, and led by double-digits the rest of the way.
The Eagles on the third set against Ramapo, but hit just .148 in the four-set defeat. Wokocha tied his season-high with 15 kills against the Roadrunners, while Bagileo and Cash finished with six terminations apiece. Bagileo also finished with three blocks. Landis dished out 23 assists, and Bushong led the defensive effort with 12 digs.
Eastern will be in western Pennsylvania for three matches against Trine, Grove City, and Carlow. The Eagles begin the weekend with a 5:30 match against Trine on Friday.Â
