ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— After finishing finals last week, Eastern University Women's Basketball faced another tough test with a home game against Susquehanna. The visiting River hawks (8-1) used a 14-to-3 run over the final three and a half minutes of the first half to erase an early Eastern lead and grab control of the game on the way to a 67-51 win.
The Eagles (4-5) played some of their best basketball of the year en route to a 16-9 lead after one quarter. jeriyah Johnson had eight points in the quarter, and the Eagles held a 14-to-10 edge on the glass.

Sophia Vera grabbed three. ON defense, the Eagles came up with four steals adn contested shots while only sending the River Hawks to the line once.
Though the Eagles made only 3-of-9 shots in the first six minutes of the second, the Eastern lead was still five with three and a half minutes left in the half. Eastern's only points over the final five and a half minutes came on a
Kayla Martinez 3-pointer with 25 seconds to play which closed the gap to 27-25. Susquehanna senior Julia Pinert split a pair of free throws with three seconds on the clock and then stole a pass and hit a buzzer-beater from deep to stretch the River Hawk lead to 31-25.
While the Eagles made only 4-of-13 shots in the second quarter, the River Hawks made 9-of-17.
Susquehanna opened the second half on a 17-to-6 run to stretch their lead to 17 before the Eagles closed out the third quarter with three made 3-pointers.
Adriana Summersett, Martinez, and Manuel each hit one from deep to close the gap to 50-40 after three quarters. For the game, the Eagles shot 34.5 percent from deep and had five different players make 3-pointers. Summersett scored 12 of her team-high 14 from deep.
The Eagles held their ground for the fourth quarter, but with Susquehanna executing on offense and taking care of the ball, they were unable to close the gap. The River Hawks finished with a 47-32 edge on the glass and made 12-of-15 free throws to seal the win. Zoie Maffei led all scorers with 16 points.
Johnson and
Madeline Wylie each finished with nine points and Martinez had six points off the bench.
The Eagles will finish their first semester with a road test at Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown, N.J. on Saturday at noon.
