ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— With a season-best shooting night, Eastern University Women's Basketball (3-4) headed into the Thanksgiving break with a convincing 63-48 home win over Bryn Mawr College. Dan=miyae Moyet posted a game-high 15 points adn
Madeline Wylie delivered 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a solid overall game.
After teh two teams went back and forth early, the Eagles took the lead for good on a 3-pointer from
Adriana Summersett with four minutes to play in the period. With Wylie making passes out of the high post, the Eagles held a 14-12 lead at the break. Wylie had assists on three of Eastern's five baskets in the frame.
The Owls (4-4) cut the Eastern lead to one with a long 3-pointer and a nice floater in the lane, but Moyet had answer with 3-pointer from Ariana Hester. The Eastern lead stood at 23-22 with just less than three minutes. Back-to-back three-point plays from Wylie fueled an 8-to-0 run down the stretch for a 31-22 halftime lead. Eight different Eagles scored in the first half.
After the visitors outscored Eastern 11-9 in the third, the Eagles started the fourth quarter on a 10-to-0 run to build a 17-point lead with seven and a half minutes left. Moyet had four points and
Ariyana Hester had a pair of assists in the run. Hester finished with six assists and the Eagles tied their season-high with 18 assists.
Dominique Geiger played in the high post for much of the second half and also played the role of provider. She finished with six points, four rebounds and four assists and was a plus-21 for the game.
"I'm happy we were able to take care of business at home," Head Coach
Sarah Fowler said after the game "It was great to get a win going into Thanksgiving. Dom Geiger was the X-factor today. She set up teammates in offense and helped the team get critical stops on defense."
The Eastern lead reached 21 after back-to-back 3-pointers from
Jeriyah Johnson and Hester. The Owls scored the final six points of the game.
Eastern made 24-of 58 from the floor and hit 8-of-11 free throws. Moyet, Summersett, and Hester each hit a pair of 3-pointers. Jenny Briggs led Bryn Mawr with 14. The Eagles owned a 46-33 edge on the glass and held the Owls to only 27 percent from the floor. Moyet had 10 points after halftime.
It is the first time the two Main Line schools have played since Bryn Mawr beat Eastern 57-35 in November of 2007.
The Eagles are at Neumann on Tuesday after the break.
