Men's Soccer Settles For Draw on Senior Day

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— Eastern University Men's Soccer (5-9-2,1-3-1) came into today's Senior Day test against the Alvernia University Golden Wolves needing the full three points to keep any chances of playing in the post-season alive. The Golden Wolves (2-9-6, 0-3-2) were in a similar situation. Each team scored in the final four minutes, but neither team came away pleased with a 1-1 draw.

Despite playing without their captian, the Eagles showed great spark from the jump. Joåo Tarabal forced an early save, and Haroon Husseini and Matthew Capuano each hit the crossbar with hard shots before the game was 11 minutes old. The Eagles took 11 first-half shots and especially for the first twenty minutes, played some of their best attacking soccer of the year. Evan Cope appeared to have broken the tie with a shot from in close off a cross from Capuano, but the offside flag went up and the teams went to have tied at 0-0.

The Golden Wolves found more possession in the second half, but the Eagles still had chances. Morris Marshall got in behind the Alvernia defense and chose to square a ball up for Cope rather than take a tough angled shot. A sliding play by a recovering defender spoiled the chance.

With the clock stopping on every substitution in the final 15 minutes, both teams worked to extend the game. The Golden Wolves got their break on a penalty kick call at the top of the box in the 87th minute. Connor Kraycik tucked home the shot.

Down a goal, the Eagles threw even more numbers forward. After a long throw-in attempt was cleared back toward the benches. Adedoutn Adelekan gathered the ball and fired a hopeful effort toward the back post. His shot slipped into the top corner with just under a minute to play.

Ty Bleiler finished with four saves for the Eagles.

The Eagles will play at Albright on Tuesday before ending the year with a home test against Widener.
