Field Hockey Blanks Albright for MAC Commonwealth Win

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— Eastern University Field Hockey (8-7, 1-3) scored three times in the first half and goalies Angelina Catania and Christina Unger combined for seven saves to secure a 3-0 MAC Commonwealth win over the visiting Albright College Lions (3-11, 0-4). CJ Summa scored twice and Morgan Unruh added a goal as the Eagles won in the league for the first time this year.

Though the Lions had the first two penalty corners of the contest, the Eagles defended them well with a straight-forward save from Catania and a good rush. As the first quarter neared a close the Eagles turned their territorial advantage into some chances. Karlee Howard pressed the action with good ball-handling anda. pair of wide shots. The Eagles got a tip-attempt from Braeley Digregorio on their first corner.

Ninety seconds later, the Eagles converted on their second corner. Kara Frantz took the insert and fed Summa on her right. Summa drove a low shot toward the near post. The shot took a slight redirection of an Albright stick before finding the backboard.

After the quarter break, Eagles doubled their lead on their next penalty corner opportunity. The Lions dealt with the initial flurry, but Ryhanna Ridgeway chased down a ball near the edge of the circle and popped a pass to Unruh in the scoring area. Eastern's senior forward settled the pass and tucked home her sixth of the year. With that goal, she now has 20 goals and 50 points for her career.

Six minutes later, Summa got fouled from behind while taking a shot, and the Eagles were awarded a penalty stroke. Summa converted the stroke for her ninth goal of the year and 21st career tally.

With the three goal edge, the Eagles were able to rotate players in and got good contributions from several young players all over the field.

The win in the league is the first for the Eagles since beating Hood in overtime in 2023. Eastern wore pink socks and bows to continue to raise awareness for Breast Cancer.

Eastern will travel to Messiah University on Saturday.
