ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. — Both Eastern University seniors hit big milestones as Eastern University Women's Volleyball won a pair of matches in a tri-match held at St. Mary's College. With 18 in the match,
Viviana Fragoso recorded her 1,000th career dig in a three-set win over Cedar Crest College to start the day. A couple hours later,
Hannah Pringle hit .389 and put away 15 kills as Eastern swept the host Seahawks. Pringle now has 1381 career kills and is now fifth on Eastern's career list.
In the opener, the Eagles hit .455 as a team and only received serve 29 times in beating the Falcons 25-13, 25-9, 25-10. Eastern converted nearly 70 percent of their serve-receive chances into points. Pringle had 14 kills and
Jessie Schreiber put away a career-best 11 kills on only 22 attacks.
Taylor Stone delivered 15 assists and
Kallie Rogers had 13.
Veronica Faber had three blocks and three kills.
Eastern hit .300 in the win over the Seahawks. With the opening set tied at 12,
Grace Cooper and Fragoso each put together three-point runs at the service line. St. Mary's (11-12) closed the gap to 22-21, but Pringle stopped the streak with her fifth kill of the opening set. Schreiber had four kills and three blocks as the Eagles won 25-22.
The offense worked well in a 25-17 win in the second. Led by Pringle's six kills, the Eagles put down 15 balls with only two hitting errors. Stone had seven of her 14 assists in the second set.
The Eagles served aggressively on the way to a 25-13 win in the third. Over the final two sets, Eastern turned 75 percent of the Seahawks' serves into sideout points. The Eagles had only eight attack errors in the match.
Pringle had 15 kills and
Alexis Standford had ten. Cooper, and
Emma Ciesielka each had ten digs, and Fragoso added 11 more to move into Eastern's top 20.
"It was a very good weekend to come away with two wins," Head Coach
Mark Birtwistle said after the matches. "The team made some good adjustments in the St. Mary's match to keep the pressure on them. Quality serving and efficient offense was the key today."
"Congrats to Viviana for getting her 1,000th career dig," he added. "Viv has been a staple in our defense and serve receive her whole career. I'm happy to see her achieve this milestone."
The Eagles (16-5) now must focus their attention on a pair of massive road tests in the MAC Commonwealth. Eastern is at Messiah on Wednesday and then will travel to Stevenson the following Tuesday. Stevenson is currently unbeaten in the league and has a win over Messiah.
