ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Back home at The NEST on Wednesday evening, a tough shooting night doomed Eastern Women's Basketball in an 80-45 loss to the Albright College Lions. The Eagles scored just 11 points in the first 20 minutes and shot just 14-of-71 from the field.
Julia Zakovitch hit a jumper on the Lions' first possession, and Albright led the rest of the way. The Lions outscored the Eagles 19-6 in the opening frame and the Eagles hit just one field goal. Four of the Eagles' six points came at the charity stripe.
After junior guard Stephanie White hit a pair of free throws at the 1:09 mark of the first quarter, the Eagles were held off the scoreboard until the 4:40 mark of the second. Alright scored 17 straight points to take a 29-6 lead before Dominique Geiger broke the scoreless drought with a jumper. Geiger was a bright spot for the Eagles on Wednesday, finishing with a season-high 13 points on five-of-13 shooting. Jeriyah Johnson hit a three a few possessions later, but the Lions went into halftime with a 37-11 lead.
Albright continued to dominate in the third quarter, outscoring the Eagles 24-11. Eastern scored 23 points in the final frame, but were unable to recover from their shooting struggles coupled with Albright's second quarter surge.
Johnson led the Eagles with 17 points on the night. For the Lions, Gigi Serrano led a balanced Albright attack with nine points to go along with seven rebounds off the bench. CJ Apistar finished with eight points and six rebounds, while Mackenzie Dover and Zakovitch each finished with seven points. Albright also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Eagles 44-27.
Eastern (2-16, 1-6) will be back at The NEST on Saturday to take on York for the second time this season. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
