Men's Volleyball Splits at RMC

ASHLAND, Va. - Back on the road on Saturday, Eastern Men's Volleyball split a pair of matches at the Macon Invitational hosted at Randolph-Macon College. The Eagles won the first match of the day in four set over Lynchburg, before falling to the host Yellow Jackets in three. 

First-year outside hitter Kaodi Wokocha continued his strong rookie season for the Eagles. The Galloway, N.J. recorded 21 kills over the two matches, including 12 in Eastern's win over Lynchburg. Sophomore Connor Tucholski tied his career-high with 12 terminations against Lynchburg and also recorded a career-high six blocks, while Symir Byrd finished with seven kills. Ronan Landis and Josh Hrabosky orchestrated the offense with a combined 32 assists, and Wokocha led the defensive effort with a career-high 14 digs. 

The Eastern offense was efficient against Lynchburg as the Eagles finished with a .315 hitting percentage. Furthermore, Eastern hit .300 or better in three of the matches' four sets. For the match, the Eagles sided out on 57 of their 81 chances, good for 70 percent. 

After the Hornets took an early 4-3 lead in the opening set, the Eagles rattled off five straight points on a kill from Byrd and four straight Lynchburg attack errors. The Eagles never trailed in the set the rest of the way. Tucholski and Wokocha combined for seven kills in the set as the Eagles won 25-20. 

Lynchburg tied the match in set two with a 25-22 win. After trading point and playing to a 12-12 tie, the Hornets scored three straight points to go up 15-12 and held that lead until the end. Wokocha recorded another four kills, and Max Bajileo also collected four terminations in the second set. 

The Eagles had their best hitting percentage in set three, finishing with 10 kills on 18 attacks, good for a .389 clip. With the set tied at nine, Eastern rattled off five straight points on kills from Wokocha and Tucholski, a pair of service aces from Landis, and another Lynchburg attack error. The Eagles went on to end the set on a 10-5 run and win 25-17. Wokocha, Tucholski, and Byrd combined for seven kills, while Josiah Cash, Colby Arvesen, and Landis also recorded a termination. 

Eastern opened the fourth set with five straight points and went on to win the set 25-18. Tucholski recorded another four kills, while Wokocha and Byrd each finished with two to secure Eastern's fourth win of the season. 

The Eagles hit just .118 in their second match of the day against Randolph-Macon. Wokocha led the way with nine kills, Bagileo finished with six, and Cash five. Wokocha led the defensive effort with six digs and Bagileo also recorded four blocks. 

Eastern Men's Volleyball (4-2) is back on the road next weekend at Ramapo College for another tri-match. The Eagles will face off against Bard at 1:00 pm followed by host Ramapo at 3:00 pm.
