Seip Scores Late to Lift Men's Soccer at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa.- Junior Defender Kade Seip headed home a corner kick in the 84th minute to lift Eastern University Men's Soccer to a 1-0 win at Haverford College. Ty Bleiler made five saves to secure the clean sheet and pick up his second win of the year in goal.

Playing on grass for the first time this season, the Eagles encountered an additional challenge as the skies opened with rain in the second half. In the moments leading up to the goal, Bleiler made a big play off his line to expel an under-hit back pass from his team's zone.

With the clocking ticking toward full time, Ethan Pfau earned the edge on the left side as Osmond Chan drew the Haverford defense away with a strong run toward goal. Pfau ripped a cross off a Haverford shin to earn the team's second corner kick of the day.

Zach Sievert swung a big serve toward the back post where Seip won his individual battle and powered home his first career tally. The junior from Delaware has played every minute in the back for the Eagles this year. It is the second time this year this season that a headed goal by a center back has turned into a game-winner. Zach Chaplin had the game-winner against Ithaca.

After the goal, what had been a steady rain turned into a torrential downpour. With the weather worsening and the stiffening wind pushing the ball toward the Eastern goal, Bleiler Seip, and Chan all made big plays in the Eastern box to keep the hosts of the scoreboard.

The meeting was the first between the two Main Line squads since 2012. The Eagles (2-1) will host Rutgers Newark on Wednesday.
