ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The visiting Rutgers Newark Scarlet Raiders scored in the 11th minute and Eastern University Men's Soccer was never able to regain control of the match as the guests scored twice in each half for a 4-0 win.
Though the shots were level at 5-5 in the first half, Rutgers Newark saw both their shots on taraget find the back of the net. Only moments after the Scarlet Raiders opened the scoring,
Marcus Pringle had the best chance of the match for the Eagles. The sophomore forward had his close-range effort turned away by Newark goalkeeper Pedro Flores.
The guests doubled their lead in the 34th minute and scored again in the 55th minute.
Though the eagles started to gain back some of the play late, the guests put away a fourth tally in the 79th minute to end the scoring. The road win is the first for the Scarlet Knights since a 2-1 win at TCNJ in October of 2022. The loss is the worst defeat on Olson Field for Eastern Men's Soccer since a 4-0 loss to Misericordia University in October of 2013.
It was the first meeting between the two programs.
The Eagles will have a day to recover before hosting the Gordon College Scotts on Friday afternoon.
