MADISON, N.J. - Eastern Field Hockey scored the first two goals of the game on their first two shots, but ultimately came out on the losing end of another high scoring affair on Tuesday night against Drew University. Drew first-year midfielder Emily Caporrino scored her first career goal with nine seconds to play, and the Eagles fell to the Rangers 5-4 to drop to 2-3 on the season.

CJ Summa continued her dream start to her rookie season with another goal and her first career assist.The Ellicott City, Md. native now has nine goals on the season and has scored in all five of Eastern's games in 2024. Sophomore

Morgan Unruh scored for the second game in a row, and sophomore
Karlee Howard also recorded her first goal in an Eastern uniform.
The Eagles started the scoring just 90 seconds in as Unruh gathered off a through pass from
Kara Frantz off a restart and ripped a shot past Drew goalkeeper Beth Kelly for her second goal of the season. With 6:42 to go in the period, Howard doubled the Eastern advantage off a penalty corner, lifting a rebound over Kelly and into the cage to make it 2-0 Eastern.
From there, the Rangers took control. In a span of just over two minutes, Lauren Cagliostro and Emma Rider found the back of the cage to make it 2-2. Cagliostro scored off a penalty corner, while Rider potted a breakaway chance off an Eastern turnover.
Drew took the lead early in the second quarter off some excellent passing as Hana Johnston found Janelle Arch through the Eastern defense. Arch's shot from the right side crossed the line for her fourth goal of the year and a 3-2 Drew lead.
Off a penalty corner in the third, Eastern was able to knot it up three on Reider's deflection.
Abby Hakes found Summa at the top of the box, and her ensuing shot deflected off Reider's stick and into the back of the cage. Less than a minute later, however, the Rangers regained the lead on Cagliostro's second goal of the contest.
The Eagles continued to battle, and Summa tied it up at 4-4 early in the fourth frame off a sequence of excellent passing between her, first-year defender
Julia Potter, and junior midfielder
Paige Brouse. It was the first career assist for Potter.
In the final minute, the Rangers made one last offensive push and forced a penalty corner with under 20 seconds to play. A scramble ensued in front of the Eastern cage, and Caporinno took advantage, depositing the game winner in the waning moments.
The Rangers outshot the Eagles 19-10, which included a 14-6 edge in shots on goal. Summa led the way with five shots, while Unruh finished with two. First-year goalkeeper
Angelina Catania finished the game with six saves.
Eastern will be back in St. Davids on Friday afternoon for a showdown with MAC Freedom foe Stevens. Opening faceoff is set to begin at 4:30 pm.
