Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls in MAC Commonwealth Title Game

OWINGS MILLS, Md.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse saw its post-season run halted in a 21-3 MAC Commonwealth Championship Game loss at Stevenson University. NIck Litzenberger scored two goals to pace the Eagles.

The Eagles (8-11) reached their first MAC Commonwealth Title Game with an historic win at York on Wednesday. In that game, everything that needed to happen did. Though the Eagles did not win a high percentage of faceoffs, they defended cleared, and shot well, and avoided big runs as they kept the game as a six-on-six game. To continue their run of upsets, they would need nearly everything to go well to counter the Mustangs' advantage at the faceoff X.

Earlier in the day, the entire Stevenson community received devastating news when they learned that former lacrosse All-American Callum Robinson had passed away in tragic and sudden circumstances. Robinson, originally from Australia, was a tremendous player and a very influential person in the Stevenson community. He was remembered with a moment of silence and several banners throughout Mustang stadium.

All the things that went well on Wednesday did not go as well against Stevenson in the final. The Mustangs dominated at the faceoff X and used that edge to create odd-number rushes that turned into goals. The Mustangs got into good shooting positions and hit corners. Litzenberger scored twice in the first quarter, but the Mustangs led 6-2 at the first break.

The hosts scored  three times in the opening three and a half minutes of the second quarter. Though things slowed down from there, the Mustangs were up 18-2 before Gavin Stark put away a Nicholas Fanelli pass early in the fourth quarter. The assist was the 139th assist of his his record-setting career. Nicholas Fanelli finishes with 332 points.

The Mustangs will earn the MAC Commonwealth's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
