YORK, Pa.– After an extended period without outdoor court time, Eastern University Men's Tennis dropped a 7-2 decision in a MAC Commonwealth match at York College. The Eagles (2-5,0-1) earned an 8-5 win at the top doubles spot and a hard-fought three-set win at fifth singles.
Ethan Goonewardene picked up his second win of the year at fifth singles. The junior ground out a 7-5 win in a tie-breaker to win the opening set 7-6. After dropping the second set, 6-4, he won 10-4 in the super-tiebreaker third set.
Jeff Day and
Jacob DeVage earned an 8-5 win at the top doubles spot, but the host Spartans led 2-1 heading to singles.
Day at second singles and
Shane Witzer at sixth singles were able to push opening sets to the limit, but the Spartans won each of their five singles wins in two sets.
The Eagles will host Alvernia on Tuesday.
