ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse led 4-1 early, but the visiting Stevenson University Mustangs dominated possession and outscored the Eagles 17-2 in the final three quarters to run away to a 22-7 win. The Mustangs scored six man-up games in the game.
The Eagles (4-7, 0-1) won only 7-of-31 faceoffs in the game, but got early saves from
Ethan Myers to help gain possession.
Gavin Stark opened the scoring on a pass from
Nick Litzenberger, and
Connor Bachman added a goal from
Nicholas Fanelli. The Mustangs capitalized on a man-up chance to cut the lead in half before the Eagles struck again for an unassisted goal from
Nicholas Fanelli and a man-up goal from Litzenberger on a good pass from
Jake Vitone.
The Mustangs scored three goals tie the game before Bachman finished his second of the day to put the Eagles up 5-4 with two and a half minutes left in the opening frame. Stevenson scored a single goal to close the first and then scored six times in the second to take an 11-5 lead to the intermission. Four of Stevenson's goals in the period came with an extra player.
The Eastern defense held the Mustangs to three goals in the third, but with the visitors winning faceoffs at nearly 80 percent and riding well, the defense spent a lot of time on the field. Myers made 17 saves through three periods, but after Litzenberger scored to open the fourth, the quality of the Stevenson chances improved and the Mustangs scored eight times in the fourth.
Brennan Kaut scored the final Eastern goal.
The Eagles will host Messiah University on Wednesday.
