Baseball Earns Crucial Win over Stevenson on Senior Day

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - On a gorgeous afternoon for baseball, Eastern Baseball wrapped up its home schedule with a 10-2 win over York to begin its crucial final conference series. With two more victories, coupled with a pair of York losses tomorrow at Alvernia, the Eagles will clinch a spot in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament.

In his final game at The Yard, senior Evan Barks went out in style, finishing 3-for-4 with a triple, two singles, and four runs batted in. Garrett Friend and Ryan Turzani combined for four hits, three runs scored, and two RBIs, while Luke Meehan and Connor Schilling also finished with a hit and an RBI.

Sean Cottrell (6-4) was brilliant on the bump once again, recording his sixth win of the season. The senior from Glassboro pitched seven innings, giving up just four hits and one unearned run while striking out seven. Zackary Bollinger was equally effective in relief, striking out three in 1.2 innings, and Carter Cranmer struck out the lone batter he faced in his final home appearance.

Eastern struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning to take a lead it would not relinquish. After a walk to Thomas Kozlusky and a single from Friend, Barks hit an infield single to score Kozlusky, putting the Eagles ahead 1-0. Logan Klember followed with a sacrifice fly to center field, and Turzani capped off the scoring with an RBI single to center, pushing the Eastern advantage to 3-0.

After a successful sacrifice bunt from Klember in the third, Schilling drove home Eastern's fourth run on an RBI groundout. In the fourth, Friend doubled to the deepest part of The Yard to score Griffin Falco, and Barks followed with his second RBI to center field to put the Eagles ahead 6-0. Turzani made it 7-0 in the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch.

Stevenson made their pushes, putting two guys on with two outs in the sixth and eighth innings, but the Eagles gave up just two runs, as both Cottrell and Bollinger worked out of jams. Cottrell induced a flyout with runners at the corners in the sixth, and Bollinger also induced a flyout with the bases loaded in the eighth to keep the Mustangs at bay.

Eastern added three crucial insurance runs in the eighth to secure their 18th win of the year. Barks tripled to deep right field to score Falco and David Hunsberger, and Meehan capped off the scoring with an RBI double to center field.

Before the game, the program recognized the commitment of seniors Jin Lee, Turzani, Klember, Roy Corso, John Beck, Friend, Joe Paradise, Brock Langlotz, Schilling, Barks, Cranmer, Kasey Baumgart, Falco, and Cottrell. They all made major contributions to Eastern Baseball in their time with the program, and all have played a role in pushing Eastern to a potential playoff spot.

Eastern (18-19, 8-11) wraps up its regular season with a doubleheader against the Mustangs in Owings Mills. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
