YORK, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse rallied from an early seven-goal deficit on a windy day at York College, but the host Spartans held on for a 15-11 win. Senior goalie
Ethan Myers made 18 stops and scored goal for the Eagles.
With a multi-time All-Conference specialist in Vinny Facciponti at the X, the Spartans controlled the faceoff game. York won 10 of the first 11 faceoffs on the way to an 8-1 lead midway through the second period.
Gavin Stark scored from
Connor Bachman to tie the game at 1-1 midway through the first period, but York's domination in possession took a toll and York built the big lead.
Myers made a stop and a big shot to stop the run. With York in a ten-man ride, Myers hurled a shot through a gale-force wind that dipped just under the crossbar.
Stark scored again and the two teams traded goals to halftime, but the Spartans still held a six-goal edge at 10-6.
Brett Williamson scored from
Christopher Fanelli for the final Eastern goal of the half.
After the Eastern defense opened the second half with a full 80-second stop, Williamson set up Bachman for the first goal of the second half. The Spartans answered with two goals before Williamson scored from
Nick Litzenberger, but against the Spartans won a faceoff and had a quick answer.
Litzenberger scored the final goal of the third quarter, but the Eagles still trailed 13-7. While the Eagles outscored their hosts 4-2 in the fourth, but there would be no miracle finish. Litzenberger had two fourth-quarter goals and an assist on Stark's third goal of the afternoon.
Nicholas Fanelli scored the final goal of the game on a pass from
Christopher Fanelli.
The Eagles (4-9, 0-3) are at Alvernia on Wednesday.
