ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Volleyball (7-9) rode a huge first-set comeback to a three-set win over the visiting Widener University Pride to savage a split in the team's final home tri-match of the year. The Eagles bounced back after falling to Randolph Macon College in three sets in the first match of the day.

In the opening set of the final match, the Pride had a 24-18 lead, and seemed to have secured the set when a
Rodney Quarles attack landed beyond the end-line. An official saw and called a touch and gave the Egles what seemed to be just a chance to build a little momentum going into the second set.

Lucas Adam served with freedom and purpose and the Eagles gained one point on an ace, a second point on another kill from Quarles, and then forced a timeout on a block from
Jarred Barch and
Andres Suarez Batista. The Eagles closed the gap to a point on a Widener attack error and tied the score on another block from Barch and Suarez Batista. After fighting off five set points, the Eagles earned one of their own on another Quarles kill.

Widener fought off one match point, but the Eagles earned another opportunity on the fourth Quarles kill of the set. After an aggressive serve from Barch, the Eagles won the opening set 27-25.

Though Widener outhit the Eagles .409 to .350 in the second set, the Eagles took advantage of Widener service errors to earn a 25-22 win in the second. The Eagles built a 20-13 lead in the third and hung on to win 25-23.

The Eagles hit .274 as a team in the win and matched their 11 service errors with 11 aces. The Pride hit .356 but had only four aces against 15 service errors.

Quarles led the Eagles with 11 kills. Max Bagilieo had 8 kills and hit .462 and
Lucas Adam had six kills on only nine swings to go with his three aces and six digs. Suarez Batista and
Max Bushong each had five digs.
Chris Miller and
Josh Hrabosky split setting duties on the day. Miller finished with 17 assists and Hrabosky had 16.

Though Widener (8-8) is a MAC opponent, the match today was not a MAC contest. The two programs will play their conference game at Widener on March 27.

In the opening match, the Eagles played right with the visiting Yellow Jackets (11-7), but they were unable to close out the second set when they had a lead and lost 27-25 or to pull ahead in the first or third sets.

Rodney Quarles led the Eagles with nine kills in the three-set loss.

The Yellow Jackets hit .241 on the way to a 25-21 win in the opening set. The Eagles started the second set with a 9-3 lead and held that six-point advantage all the way to a 22-16 lead. RMC scored five of the next six points, but the Eagles still had three set points after a Bagileo kill made it 24-21. The Yellow Jackets scored three straight to tie the set, but the Eagles had another chance to equalize after a service error by the visitors, but a service error opened the door and the Yellow Jackets claimed the set with a two points.

Eastern hit .172 in the third set, but the visiting Yellow Jackets converted at a .292 clip and won 26-24.

Randolph Macon beat Widener in four sets in the neutral-site game.
