Baseball Falls to Cabrini in Rainy Slugfest

RADNOR, Pa.– On a rainy day in Radnor, Eastern University Baseball scored a season-high 14 runs, but the host Cabrini University Cavaliers took advantage of three big innings to pull away to an 18-14 win in the second game of the season between the two neighboring schools.

The Cavaliers (6-2) took advantage of three-run homer to post four runs on four hits in the bottom of the third inning, but the Eagles answered with six runs on five hits in the top of the fourth. Justin DiCesare delivered a two-run double and Robert Del Buono put the Eagles up with a two-out single.

In the top of the fifth, the Eastern lead grew to 8-4 on a Griffin Falco three-run homer. The shot to left center was the first homer of the year and tenth of his career for the senior catcher.

The Cavaliers scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and five more in the bottom of the sixth to hold a 10-8 lead.

The Eagles again rallied. This time, Luke Meehan did the damage. The sophomore transfer first baseman from Arcadia delivered a three-run homer in the top of the eight for an 12-10 lead.

That advantage, however, would prove to be short lived. The Cavaliers scored eight times on only four hits in the eighth inning to build an 18-12 lead. The Eagles scored twice on a Thomas Kozlusky double in the ninth, but the deficit was to large to overcome.

Senior outfielder Garrett Friend had a strong day at the plate for Eastern, going 4-for-4 with a double, three run scored, and an RBI. Del Buono continued to shine, going 3-for-6 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Falco finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs, and Meehan drove in three runs. Kozlusky hit a pair of doubles and recorded three RBIs, while DiCesare added two hits, two runs scored, and a pair of runs batted in.

"Our guys battled today," Eastern Head Coach Scott Renauro said. "Garrett has been doing really well in his rounds in practice and made the most of his opportunities. Luke had a shot today, but is also a guy who can lay a sacrifice bunt down when you need anytime. Today, we hit with a team approach. We will need to continue to do that as the season progresses."

Eastern (5-4) and Cabrini will complete their season series at Cabrini tomorrow afternoon.
