Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Falls to Widener in Five

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– In their second meeting of the year against Widener, Eastern University Men's Volleyball won the the opening two sets, but the Eagles were unable to generate enough offense late to finish the job and dropped a five-set decision to the visiting Pride. Rodney Quarles posted a team-high 15 kills in the loss.

Earlier in the month, the Eagles (10-13, 2-3) won the non-league meeting against the Pride in three sets, and things looked good for them early as they pulled out a 28-26 win in the opening set and escaped with a 29-27 win in the second. Eastern had 26 kills and hit a very respectable .238 through the opening two frames. Early on, both teams were very aggressive in the serving game, and each team gave away points on service errors. The two teams combined for 25 errors in the opening two sets.

Widener stayed aggressive in the third set, and the Eagles were only able to sideout on 11-of-25 chances while hitting a negative number in the set. With the two teams ties at 18-18, the Pride scored seven of the last nine points to force a fourth set.

The Eagles held an 11-9 lead in the fourth set, but a slew of out-of-system errors enabled the Pride to score eight straight points and grab control of the set. While the Eagles found their sideout game late int he set, the damage was done and the Eagles never got closer than five points and the Pride claimed the fourth set 25-17.

Widener scored the opening six points of the fifth set, and again the Eagles did not have enough serving power or strength in attack to make up the ground. Lucas Addam served for three points, but the Pride had an answer and won 15-9.  The Eagles had 19 kills and 20 attack errors over the final three sets.

Chris Miller had 37 assists and Adam led the Eagles with 12 digs.

Eastern is at Arcadia for a conference match against the Knights and a non-league match against Drew on Saturday.
