BALTIMORE, Md.– Though the squad rallied several times, Eastern University Women's Lcarosse came up just short in a 12-10 loss at the Notre Dame of Maryland University. Emerson Shauger scored six goals and added two assists to lead the Eastern offense. 

The host Gators (1-0) scored the first two goals in a low-scoring first frame before Ava Weiman scored from Shauger with only seven second left in the first quarter. Marcianna Tavani made three of her 11 saves in the first quarter. 

Notre Dame scored the first two goals of the second quarter to build a 4-1 lead. Shauger and Gracie Horton each scored to pull the Eagles to within a goal with a minute left int he half, but the hosts restored the two-goal edge with three second left in the half. 

Though Morgan Wallace and Shauger each scored in the third, Notre Dame scored the final two goals of the frame to go to the fourth up 8-5. 

Shauger had four fourth quarter goals, and set up Gracie Horton for a fifth, but it wound up being just short as the hosts scored four times to hold the lead. 

Notre Dame had a 17-9 edge in draw controls for the match. 

The Eagles will host Swarthmore College on March 6.
