PHILADELPHIA– The Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association today released its Academic All-Area list for the 2024 Cross Country season. With a spot in this prestigious list, Eastern University Senior
Hailey Shreffler added to her awards from the fall.
Despite battling injuries early, Shreffler earned All-MAC and All-Metro Region Honors for the third consecutive year. Shreffler, a Biochemistry major from Nesquehoning, Pa., ran a personal-best 22:5.3 over the six kilometer course at Stockton University to race 13th at the Metro Regional Meet. Two weeks earlier, she finished 11th at the MAC Championships. A national qualifier outside at 800 meters, she recently started her final track and field campaign by posting a indoor program-record in the 5,000 Meters at the Diplomat Open.
The seven-member team is selected by Sports Information Directors for their academic and athletic performance from nominees from the thirty institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan region. Shreffler was joined on the team by athletes from LaSalle, Rowan, Widener, Jefferson, and Immaculata. Widener's Gabby Nye was the area performer of the year.
Shreffler is the second Eastern Women's Cross Country runner to earn a spot on the team. Kierra Zack was recognized in 2016.
