Football Streak Ends at Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.– Eastern University Football (4-5, 4-4) saw its program-best three-game winning streak come to an end with a 27-0 loss at Delaware Valley University. The host Aggies (7-2, 6-2), who honored their 35 seniors before the game, came into the day on the heels of a 14-6 loss at King's that snapped their six-year run as league champions. The Eagles, who had earned wins over Alvernia, Stevenson, and Misericordia, struggled to sustain drives and had three turnovers against the Aggie defense.

After forcing a three-and-out on the opening defensive stand, the Eagles had their best drive of the day on their first possession. The Eastern running game made small chunks and reached the edge of the red zone with a 12-play sequence. An interception at the 20-yard line ended the drive and put the Eastern defense back on the field. In the end, the Aggies had a decided advantage in time of possession.

The Aggies ended the first quarter with the ball and went up 6-0 on a Jack Fallon touchdown run. On a third and seven play late in the drive, the Eagles had good pressure on Louie Berrios IV, but the veteran quarterback spun out of two tackles deep in his own backfield and hurdled his way for a first down. The Aggies added another touchdown late in the half on a 90-yard drive that featured a 40-yard pass play.

After the first Eastern drive of the second half ended after three plays, the hosts powered 55 yards to go up 20-0. The Aggies added on another touchdown in the final seconds of the game.

Physical from the start, the game featured 18 enforced penalties. The Eagles were only able to generate 115 yards of offense in the loss. It is the first time in the two years of the program that the Eagles have not scored a point in a game. It is the fifth time this year that the Aggies have allowed one or fewer scores.

The Eagles will finish the regular season with a game at FDU Florham against another veteran group next week. The Devils (6-3) lost 10-7 to Widener on a last-second field goal today.
