Field Hockey Drops League Test to No. 24 Stevenson

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey dropped a home contest to the 24th-ranked Stevenson Mustangs by a 5-0 score. The Eagles held Stevenson off the board in the third quarter, but the Mustangs scored three times in the second period to grab control of the game.

Though Stevenson (13-2-1, 4-0) held a 7-2 edge in first-quarter shots, the Eastern defense held its ground in front of first-year goalkeeper Angelina Catania and forced their first of five penalty corners with a good foray into the Stevenson end.

Working against the Stevenson press, the Eagles struggled to escape in the second quarter. The Mustangs scored in the run of play in the 18th minute and added two more goals on penalty corners late in the half. Stevenson had a 6-0 edge in second quarter penalty corners and a 10-0 edge in shots.

After the halftime break, the Eagles (5-10, 0-4) found better field position, but the Mustang defenders kept the Eagles out of the circle. Stevenson scored on a penalty corner midway through the third for a 4-0 edge, and added a fifth early in the fourth quarter for the final margin.

Catania finished with 16 saves in the match.

Eastern will host Alvernia on Saturday at 3:00 PM.
