Field Hockey Falls in Play Pink Match

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– A fast start from the visiting Alvernia University Golden Wolves proved to be too much as Eastern University Field Hockey lost, 6-1, in a MAC Commonwealth test. Morgan Unruh scored the only goal of the match for the Eagles.

The Golden Wolves (10-5, 3-2) scored three times in the a seven minute stretch int he first quarter. Caroline Martin scored the first two goals and Ava Michael had a goal and an assist in the opening flurry. Alvernia added two more tallies in the second quarter. The Eastern defense held Alvernia to only three shots in the period, but the guests made them count for a 5-0 halftime edge.

Michael completed her hat trick midway through the third quarter before the Eagles (5-11, 0-5) grabbed one back early in the fourth quarter. Unruh pushed home her sixth of the season on a nice pass from Karlee Howard.

Eastern had a 4-2 edge in fourth-quarter shots, but the margin was too large and the time too short.

Things don't get easier in the MAC Commonwealth for the Eagles. They are on the road at No. 9 York on Wednesday before wrapping up the regular season with a senior day match against Widener next Saturday.
