Women's Soccer Falls at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The host Greyhounds controlled the pace of play on Wednesday, notching a pair of first half goals and an insurance tally late as Eastern Women's Soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to Moravian for just its second loss of the 2024 campaign. The Eagles recorded just four shots and were shut out for just the second time this fall.

Moravian controlled both possession and field position in the opening frame and did not take long to find the scoresheet. Off a corner kick, the Greyhounds' first shot attempt went off the crossbar, but Taylor Yoder was able to pounce on the rebound and punch it past Faith Leake in the ninth minute to give the home squad a 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds added to their advantage less than 15 minutes later as Kylie Hughes deposited Carly Pyatt's cross into the back of the net. The Greyhounds finished with nine shots in the opening 45 minutes.

While the Eagles started to possess the ball more in the latter stages of the first half, they were unable to create many scoring chances. Eastern sophomore defender Ella Sedor had Eastern's lone shot of the first half, which sailed high.

Moravian continued to keep the pedal down after halftime. They moved the ball well and kept the pressure on Eastern's back line throughout the final 45 minutes. The Greyhounds finished the contest with 19 shots, 10 of which were on frame. Colby Roach scored Moravian's final goal in the 78th minute to secure the victory for the Greyhounds.

Sedor finished with two of Eastern's four shots, while Kelly Lyons and Emma Bennett also recorded scoring chances. Leake finished the match with seven saves.

Eastern (6-2-3) opens conference play in Grantham on Saturday with a 3:00 pm matchup against the Messiah Falcons.
