Women's Soccer Drops Non-league Test to Arcadia

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The visiting Arcadia University Knights scored two goals in the final fifteen minutes of the match to erase an Eastern lead and claim a 2-1 non-league win. Ella Marrollo had put the Eagles up with a goal in the 59th minute.

For much of the first hour the game was played in the midfield. While the guests had more of the ball, Faith Leake was called on to make just one routine save in a first half where the Knights fired ten shots.

The Eagles grabbed their lead after a good switch of play found Emma Bennett on the left side. The junior midfielder made a quality move to beat her mark to an inside position. She ripped a shot on frame. The Arcadia goalkeeper pushed the powerful strike into the crossbar. Marrollo reacted first and knocked home the rebound for her fifth goal of the year.

The Eagles (7-5-3), who had not dropped a match from a winning position since the final regular season match of 2022, had to deal with increased pressure from the guests and a tough glare from a setting sun.

The Knights caught their break in the 76th minute on long ball into traffic from the right side near midfield. With the tough sun and the traffic, Leake could not hold the floating serve. As happened on the other end, an attacking player won the race to the ball. Abby Stephens knotted the match with a powerful blast from six yards out.

Ten minutes later, the Knights grabbed the game-winner on another long serve. This one came after a free kick near midfield. Alexis Rabold held off an Eastern defender and volleyed home a bouncing ball for her sixth goal of the year.

The Eagles return to MAC Commonwealth play when the host Hood College on Saturday.
