Women's Soccer Claims Senior Day Win

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Soccer celebrated senior day with an important 1-0 MAC Commonwealth win over the visiting Hood College Blazers. Paige Snell scored the only goal of the match.

Hood (2-4-7, 0-2-1) came into the game with an NCAA All-Division record seven nil-nil draws. Early on, the physical game seemed headed for that result with neither team spending much time in the opponent's box. The half chances that developed all seemed to come on restarts.

The Eagles (8-5-3, 1-2) found their goal after a a foul near midfield. Olivia Nicholson lofted a ball to the back side of the box. Snell timed her run perfectly and met the bouncing serve a few yards in front of the on-rushing goalkeeper. Snell flipped a shot over the goalkeeper and into the empty goal for her third career tally.

Down a goal, the Blazers found a burst of energy going forward and spent much of the final fifteen minutes of the half in and around the Eastern box. Faith Leake made tow of her four saves in the critical closing minutes of the first.

Out of intermission, the Eagles reestablished ball control and kept much of the action in the Hood defensive end. Nicholson and Ella Sedor kept the space in front of Leake clear, and Nicole Eveland and Ashlynn Keys slowed down the Hood flank players.

The Eagles had an 11-0 edge in second-half shots and had both second half corners. The win gives the Eagles an important three points and a tiebreaker over Hood in the league standings.

The win is the sixth one-goal win for the Eagles this season.

The program honored Nicholson, Ella Marrollo, Liz Leonard, Sam Hurban, and Sarah Wilk before the match.

Eastern will play at Stevenson on Tuesday.
