GLENSIDE, Pa.– In the team's final non-league test of the year, Eastern University Men's Soccer could not find the target in a 2-0 loss at Arcadia. The Knights ( 11-3-1 ) got a goal in each half from senior captain Cole Gordon to claim their 11th win of the season.
The Eagles (3-7-3) took the first shot of the game. Aurthur Kaufmann ripped a 25-yard shot that knuckled into the Arcadia goalkeeper's chest. Arcadia then pushed deep into the Eastern end for a pair of corner kicks. The second corner bent into the back post where it was cleared off the line by an Eastern defender. That clear hit off Gordon a couple yards from goal and into the top of the net.
Down 1-0, the Eagles carried much of the action in the first half. For all their possession, the visitors struggled to break through the Arcadia lines and could only put one of their final five shots on goal.
With some tactical changes a t the break, the Eagles found paths around the Knight defensive block and were able to give service into the box from both flanks. While those serves looked dangerous, the hosts managed them well with strong goalkeeping and solid defending.
The Knights doubled their lead with a goal against the run of play as the hour mark approached.
While Gordon's first goal was a little fluky, the second goal came was world-class. His left-footed rip from 30-yards out dipped under the bar and into the top corner for the important insurance tally.
Eastern continued to press forward and held possession, but the majority of their shots on goal were under pressure and slightly off target.
Ty Bleiler had to make four second-half stops to keep the Eagles within striking distance.
With the final non-league match done, the Eagles hope to get some key scorers back as they dive into their final stretch of five league matches. They will host Hood College this Saturday.
