St. DAVIDS, Pa. – After ice and snow postponed the team's home opener, Eastern University Men's Volleyball used aggressive serving to power past the visiting Immaculata University Mighty Macs on the eve of another big storm.
Max Bagileo had six aces and six kills to lead the Eagles to the three-set win.
Bagileo posted a pair of aces in a four-point run to push the Eagles to a 6-2 lead in the opening set. The Eagles (1-2) hit .368 with 11 kills to win the first set 25-16.
Andres Suarez Batista pounded out three straight service aces early in the second set for a 5-1 lead in the second set.
Jeremiah Pha had three-straight aces in a seven-point run to put the Eagles up 13-3, and then the senior setter finished the set with his fourth ace for a 25-11 win.
Immaculata scored the first three points of the third, but Bagileo had four aces in an eight-point run to put the Eagles up 9-4 in the third. Even when his serves did not fall for aces, the junior middle hitter but the Mighty Macs on their heels and the Eagles took advantage with short points. Eastern was strong in the sideout game and rolled to a 25-16 win in the third.
With all the aces, the Eagles only had 47 swings in the match.
Josiah Cash and Bagileo each hit 1000 for the day. Cash had four kills. Rodney quarles had five kills on eight attacks.
The Eagles are in Washington, D.C. for a tri-match at Marymount University on Saturday.
