Men's Soccer Drops League-Opener at Hood

FREDERICK, Md.– Despite holding a decided edge in possession and a 13-6 advantage in shots, Eastern University Men's Soccer dropped a 1-0 decision to the host Hood College Blazers in the league opener for both sides. The Blazers (3-8, 1-0) scored in the 56th minute on their only shot on target in the match.

Though the Eagles (3-3-3) came into the match on a four-match unbeaten streak, their form was somewhat in doubt as they had yet to post a clean sheet and had settled for a trio of ties. In several of those matches, defending dead ball situations had proved to be problematic.

The Blazers took advantage a throw-in attempt from the right side with a long throw into the box. The Eagles challenged for, but did not win the initial toss. The ball skimmed to the back post where Blazer forward James Endicott slammed it home for a 1-0 lead.

Down a goal, the Eagles forced the action and applied consistent pressure but could not break through the Hood back row for a quality chance. Despite numerous restart chances from dangerous positions, the Eagles were unable to get a shot on frame in the final 25 minutes. Osmand Chan and Zach Sievert had the only two shots on goal in the match for the Eagles.

Eastern will play New York University at NJIT on Tuesday.
