Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls at NYU

NEWARK, N.J.– Eastern University Men's Soccer dropped a 3-0 decision to the New York University Violets in  a match hosted by NYU at New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Eagles (3-3-4) trailed by just 1-0 at halftime, but an NYU goal only seconds into the second half set the tone as the Violets had the Eagles on their heels for much of the second half.

The match, which the teams added in mid-September after each lost fixtures due to weather concerns, came at a weird spot in the schedule for both teams. NYU (2-5-2, 0-1) dropped their opener in the very competitive University Athletic Association last weekend and are slated to host the defending National Champion University of Chicago Maroons this coming weekend. The Eagles also dropped their first game. With the 1-0 loss at Hood, this Saturday's home test against Alvernia becomes incredibly important for the Eastern post-season hopes.

In the opening half, the hosts had the better of play. Near the midpoint of the first half, their pressure resulted in a goal after a big switching ball opened up the Eastern defense for a dangerous cross from the right. Joss Cohen had the whole goal open for a 7-yard header and a 1-0 lead.

After dropping the goal, the Eagles pushed out of their own end and applied pressure through the final 15 minutes of the half. Steven Fajardo provided a dangerous serve from the right and Haroon Husseini had a shot late. Even with a late surge, the Eagles were out-shot by a 12-1 margin in the first half.

Any plans for a second-half rally were short-lived as the Violets scored only 16 seconds into the frame. NYU added another goal at the hour mark on a rebound after a shot from distance.

The Eagles will host Alvernia at three on Saturday.
